Make more mistakes. Lessons from TED and Hatebreed.

My friend Jasper went to TED Global last weekend. He told me to watch this video by Tim Harford, who you might know as the Undercover Economist. Tim makes a case for making more mistakes in order to make better quality mistakes in the long run. I think it's great to be reminded of the virtue of embracing our qualities in doing things wrong. I'll try and make some more mistakes today - and reflect on them - so my future mistake will probably be better.

Strange how it takes a many thousand Euro's trip to TED to get this, when Jasper and I have been listening to a band that has been spreading this message for years :)

Next Level Social Music at Turntable.fm

Yesterday I read about this new social music site Turntable on Quora. Turntable is something like a bunch of music centered chatrooms: Everyone in a room gets the chance to play some tunes and earn points if the audience likes them. Since I'm a geek who loves music, this is exactly my cup of tea. I've been listening to, discussing and playing music there almost non-stop :) I like how Spotify, Last.fm made music somewhat social, but especially the gaming elements in Turntable are really something different.

When I created a room for my colleagues at Eight Media Turntable unfortunately seemed to be throttling the allowance of new members a little. Luckily I found some of my friends at de Ondernemers in their own turntable room. If you do get the chance, check it out!

A short introduction into Social Media (for Rotary Club MBV)

Last week, me and my colleagues Gaetano and Sytze were invited to give a short introduction into Social Media at the Rotary Club Midden Betuwe Valburg. It was quite hard to fit everything I wanted to tell into a presentation of half an hour, but I think I succeeded quite well. The very diverse Rotary Club proved to be a great audience for my presentation. Even while desert and coffee was being served during the presentation, everyone was very interested and eager to learn. Also, the presence of some critical individuals and some skeptics, helped to start some good discussion. And I find dialogue so much more fun than a monologue!

For anyone who's interested, here's the presentation. It consists of a short version of my views on the societal changes and technological changes that social media bring about and an exploration of the social media landscape through some examples.
